BAE Systems has received a $231.1 million contract to build 32 ACV-R recovery vehicles for the US Marine Corps. The ACV-R is the recovery version of the 8×8 Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV). Its job is to tow disabled armored vehicles and give maintenance support in the field.
Key details
- Value: $231.1 million, announced on 8 October 2026.
- Quantity: 32 hulls, against a programme goal of 34 recovery vehicles.
- Production runs mainly at BAE’s York, Pennsylvania site, through 2029.
- A crane is fitted at Anniston Army Depot, Alabama, before the vehicles go to Marine units.
- The ACV-R replaces the recovery role of the older AAV7 fleet.
Why it matters
Recovery and maintenance vehicles are often overlooked, but they keep armored fleets running. Heavier armored vehicles need stronger recovery equipment, reliable spare parts and good support behind them.
